VICTORIA IX

alt-pop

Victoria IX is the solo project of multi-instrumentalist, producer, and writer Faith Duncan. Influenced heavily by jazz and hip hop, Victoria IX boasts a new sound infused with timeless melodies and honest lyrics.

Faith first fell in love with music at the age of eight. When she wouldn’t stop tapping on the dinner table, her mother asked her if she wanted to play drums. Faith immediately said yes. At the age of 13 she realized she wanted to write songs, so she picked up guitar and started singing.

With her early influences of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra, Faith began learning jazz chords and writing love songs. Later on her influences expanded to include the likes of Jon Bellion, Kimbra, and Laura Mvula, and her vibrant sound of jazz and pop was solidified.

Faith released her first album Did I Dream Again? in 2018. With nothing more than a few posts on social media and the help of algorithmic playlists, Victoria IX shot to more than 60,000 monthly listeners.

Her songs have cumulatively been streamed over two million times, with top singles Like Like and Sweet Time gaining traction almost exclusively through word of mouth and algorithmic playlists. In 2020, Faith released Emotional Distancing - a product of the global pandemic; it offered a look into the physical and emotional distance between loved ones as they came together or were forced apart. It also served as the catalyst for Faith to start producing her own music.

A third Victoria IX album is currently in the works, which explores deeper levels of vulnerability, honesty, and musical expression.
